Sconetime Garden Party theme coming to Nambour

Sunshine Coast Foodie Martin Duncan has been baking up a storm, and connecting Sunshine Coast communities since 2018 with his much-loved Sconetime morning teas.

“Sconetime originally started in Cooroy after the Hall had been renovated,” said Martin.

“We put it to the community that the occasion was meritorious of a special event to celebrate, and Sconetime was born.

“We basically host a very beautiful morning tea, complete with tea and scones, served on vintage crockery, on tables decorated with linen and flowers. It is a wonderful excuse for our guests to get dressed up, be served food that has been prepared with love, and have conversations with fellow guests.

“Loneliness and disconnect is such a huge problem in our community, especially amongst the elderly and this seemed like a lovely way to address it,” he said.

As the event has evolved, people of all ages and backgrounds are taking part.

“We now have school students getting involved which has been fantastic,” Martin said. “The Beerwah State High School band and the Buderim School choir have both performed at Sconetime, and we also have students helping out serving food, and talking to our guests. It is amazing to see children who are sometimes a little awkward, reaching out of their comfort zone and having conversations with our guests.”

At 10am on Wednesday June 19, to celebrate the upcoming Qld Garden Expo, Sconetime will be happening in the Nambour CBD and Martin is inviting locals to come along for the Sconetime experience.

“We are so excited about the next Sconetime because we are going to have a Garden Party theme. We would love to see people turn up in their best Garden Party outfit and there will be prizes for the Best Dressed and Best Hat,” he said. “Members of the general public and businesses can also get involved with serving the morning tea and interacting with our guests.

“Simplee Sweet On Buderim has been involved with Sconetime, and Daneyl Green from Nambour’s Mix Taste Eat is also coming on board,” said Martin.

Sconetime guests are in for a real treat as there will be live music on the day.

“We have Marty Hunt, Andrea Kirwin and Florence Rhodes coming along to sing for us, which will be wonderful,” Martin said.

“Volunteering, and coming along for a cuppa and a chat is so much fun and seeing people connecting is more rewarding than I can say. Tickets are $8 each, so buy tickets for yourself, Mum, Dad, Nan, Pop, seniors or neighbours; we would love to see as many people there on the day as possible.”
