No fudging on quality: Schultz’s sweet secrets passed down through three generations

Owner Gaynor Schultz with some of the goodies: “It has taken time, practice and patience to achieve the product we offer now”.

BUSINESS WRITEUP: Schultz’s Finest

The Schultz family have been hand crafting confectioneries on the Sunshine Coast for over 30 years and have passed the secrets of quality confectionery through three generations. From fudges to peanut brittle, rocky road and coconut ice the recipes used are of a different style to most similar offerings in the market.

“It’s a bit like the difference between tea and coffee,” said owner Gaynor Schultz. “Both are hot beverages but the qualities of each are completely different.

“We use a third generation Scottish family recipe to make our fudge and it results in a delicious, crunchy style of fudge. Both my mother and grandmother used to make this fudge when I was a child.

“It has taken time, practice and patience to achieve the product we offer now and due to the popularity of our fudge, the business has grown from school fetes and markets, to our online store,” she said.

Gaynor, her husband Marc and family, opened a shop front at their Coronation Avenue Nambour kitchen because customers liked to call in to pick up their goodies in person.

The family have expanded their crunchy fudge flavours to include choc mint, ginger caramel, latte, macadamia caramel, passionfruit, original caramel and original chocolate.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have the most wonderful local suppliers for our ingredients,” Gaynor said.

“Having access to such beautiful produce has made it easy to develop our flavours.”

While the firm, crumbly Traditional Fudge is the flagship of the Schultz’s Finest range, over the years the family have brought out a moreish Rocky Road, a simple yet delicious Peanut Brittle and toffee popcorn with flavours such as butterscotch, caramel, gingerbread, and sweet and salty.

With Christmas coming up, these delicious, locally made, sweet treats make the perfect Christmas gift.

Also, next year the family is releasing a brand new range of travelling snack foods still using local ingredients.

“We have made so much confectionery over 30 years that we can almost make it in our sleep,” laughed Gaynor.

“But it is our loyal, happy customers that keep us going.”
