Volunteers needed for Riding for the Disabled

SUNSHINE Coast Riding for the Disabled (SCRDA) are seeking dependable, compassionate people who would like to give back to their community in a meaningful way in 2025. The association has vacancies for new volunteers and are offering Orientation & Induction on Monday February 3 from 9am till noon at the impressive North Arm facility. Morning tea will be provided.

“If you have a few hours to spare each week, we would love to have you come along and join our team,” said Secretary Jan O’Halloran. “In return you will be rewarded with millions of smiles. You don’t need to have horse experience – although it is an advantage – as we provide training. Don’t worry if horses aren’t your forte, we have plenty of other jobs around the Centre that may suit you.” Jan said people should wear closed in footwear and sun smart clothing.

“No need to book - just arrive at 9am on the Monday and you’ll be warmly welcomed,” she said. “Practical training will be offered in the days following and if you can attend some of those days, the better you will understand our programs and Centre. “We are looking forward to a fabulous year with our new volunteers,” said Jan.

Jan said horses’ gentle natures and rhythmic movements helped build physical strength, coordination and balance. Riding stimulated core muscles, which can improve posture and mobility. At the same time, the close bond formed with these animals promotes confidence and social interaction, which can have significant mental health benefits. Many riders experience reduced anxiety, improved focus and independence, with riding offering a unique blend of emotional, physical and developmental support.

• Sunshine Coast Riding for the Disabled is at Monak Rd, North Arm, on the left hand side at the end of the road. For more information go to www.scrda.org.au.
