Expo back as COVID reignites passion for gardening pursuits

It all began 36 years ago when the Sunshine Coast Branch of the Nursery & Garden Industry Queensland held the first of what became known as the Queensland Garden Expo. From humble beginnings the Expo has grown to become Queensland’s premier gardening event — a multi-award winning experience attracting 40,000-plus visitors from all over Australia and New Zealand to the Nambour Showgrounds.

After last year’s COVID cancellation this year’s event will involve more than 360 exhibitors including 55 nurseries from Friday to Sunday, July 9 to 11, 2021.

Queensland Garden Expo Event Manager Marion Beazley said her team was excited to once again present gardeners with information, inspiration and innovation to enhance their gardening passion.

“In 2020 many people came to gardening for the first time and we hope they will take advantage of all the information available at the event to continue their gardening journey. This year’s program will include a series of talks each day under the “Back to Basics” banner specifically aimed at giving new gardeners the information to continue to be successful gardeners.”

Ms Beazley said she was ever grateful to the Nambour community which embraced the event as its own.

“The Expo delivers a significant economic benefit to the region and supports more than a dozen local service clubs who assist with the staging of the event,” she said.

“Meanwhile, some of Australia’s leading gardening experts will take part in three days of lectures, demonstrations and workshops.”

Other features in 2021 include 60,000 plants for sale daily, landscaped garden displays, a giant organic kitchen garden, free lectures, demos each day on 10 live stages, free advice from leading gardening experts at the plant clinic, free workshops, food courts, entertainment, kid’s playground and a floral design competition.
