Rangebow Festival thrives amid economic challenges

by Tanya Outridge

At a time when other festivals are shutting down, the Hinterland’s Rangebow Festival, now in its third year, is going strong with an exciting lineup of events and attractions planned for early August.

“We are that festival that is going ahead, thanks to the generous support of Sunshine Coast Council, Visit Sunshine Coast and our amazing business sponsors,” said Festival Director Wayne Parcell.

According to Mr Parcell, being well attuned to the community and festival-goers has contributed to its success.

“We have made a point of listening closely to find out what resonates with people, and I think this has been the imperative,” he said.

“We are a small, close-knit team, which means we can be quite nimble and this allows us to control costs and pricing in response to what is going on out in the community. We are well aware that many people are feeling an economic pinch at the moment.

“To that end, this year’s festival will feature a range of free attractions, including the Enchanted Garden, which offers three days of live music, entertainment, quirky performances and so much more. Everyone can find some joy in the festival, especially in these tough times.

“We are so grateful to have incredible sponsors like Montville Gourmet Bistro, who is picking up the tab for performers such as Frank and Louis, Shanleigh Rose, and Andy V, Sophie Delightful’s circus performances and the Curbside Carnies,” Mr Parcell said.

“Although we obviously need to be financially viable, I can confidently say that we are driven predominantly by purpose. This generates a wonderful synchronicity within our team, and between our sponsors and community. I think this is also the reason our sponsors have stuck with us. This festival is something that benefits and supports so many people, in so many ways.”
