Maleny Firie’s hold Open Day at new facility

Maleny SES & RFS member Christian Coventry shows a couple of likely future recruits the ropes.

Former and current Maleny auxiliary fire and rescue service firefighters were out in force for QFES’ Maleny Fire Station Open Day last Saturday (May 7).

Members of the public joined firefighters in pouring over the new $3.9 million emergency services facility which was officially opened by the Commissioner and Minister a few months ago. Due to Covid the station hadn’t been able to welcome members of the public until the Open Day.

The new facility houses three QFES services: Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) auxiliary firefighters, Rural Fire Service (RFS) and State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers.

“It’s incredibly special for the hinterland area, and an important hub for Sunshine Coast operations which will significantly boost QFES’ capability in the area for any type of emergency,” a spokesperson said.

“We had all sorts of activities for kids, plus members of FRS, RFS and SES were on hand to talk with residents about how to prepare for the upcoming bushfire season as well as safety pointers on winter fire safety.”
