If you have started the process of looking for a home care provider, you may have found that it can be confusing and time consuming to find the provider and funding that best meets your needs.

Sourcing experienced service providers who know where to source the correct funding and will deliver personalised care for you or your loved ones can be extremely stressful.

“This is unfortunately very common,” said Pearl Home Care Sunshine Coast Co-Founder, Kerry Zaninetti. “There are many options available but in our experience, people quickly become overwhelmed and find it difficult to make a start. They are also unaware of the time lag in actually securing the resources they need.”

Founded on principals of caring

Kerry and her business partner Tanya Fisher, have 20 years of combined experience in the industry. A shared commitment to nurturing higher standards of care and personal relationships was the driving force for them to establish Pearl Home Care on the Sunshine Coast.

“We have worked in bigger companies together for many years,” Tanya said. “And we were both feeling increasingly dissatisfied with the way the industry has headed,” she said. “As large companies have absorbed smaller providers, the industry has become more centralised. Head offices have been relocated to capital cities, far removed from the clients they serve. We could see personal relationships disappear before our eyes, and not just with clients, but with staff as well. All care was sliding away, in what is essentially a caring industry. More concerningly, we were hearing this type of feedback from clients.”

Kerry and Tanya decided to start their own Home Care business, grounded in the principles that drew them to the industry in the first place. Pearl Home Care is a small, privately owned business which provides services based on your needs, rather than the demands of shareholders.

“When you pick up the phone to call, you will be speaking with the owner,” Tanya said. “I think this gives our clients great peace of mind.”

“Many of our clients are quite vulnerable and don’t always have the confidence to advocate for themselves,” Kerry explained.

“I am able to draw on my experience and knowledge of the system to both educate and advocate for them.

“Much of my time is spent listening to people and getting an insight into their situation so that I can best tailor a package of funding and services.”

‘Our team is our family, and it also becomes yours’

Tanya’s expertise and experience lies in scheduling and coordinating services. “The basis of great service lies in putting together a team who share our values,” she said.

“Our team is our family, and it also becomes yours. We minimise the number of people who will be going into a home, and employ a dedicated team of your choice.

“Many of our support workers are older, and they have skills, knowledge, life experience and a wonderful sense of compassion,” she said.

“As far as our staff are concerned, we are employing people of any age, for whom this is not just a job.

“We provide ongoing professional development and support to our team and whether you are a member of our staff or a client, you will never be just a number or dollar sign to us.”

“Our job is to help you stay in your home through a range of services, right through to end of life and palliative care,” Kerry said.  “It is a tremendous privilege to be able to guide and support people through this phase of their lives. We have already created a tight knit family of staff and clients and we are very excited about helping more people live better lives in the comfort of their family home.”
