Music in the Moonlight to raise funds for Palmwoods State School

On Saturday the 12th of October, the Palmwoods State School P&C Association will be hosting an 18+ fundraising extravaganza called ‘Music in the Moonlight’, to raise money for the school’s music program.

“Our plan is to use the funds to pay for all students that are interested in joining the music program, buy sorely needed instruments for the school, and support a new grade 3 band initiative,” said P&C Association President, Jack Gaffney.

“The event will feature a pianist, a jazz band and a rock band. There will be drinks and nibbles on arrival, a sit down dinner and dessert, and throughout the evening, our guests will be entertained by a fire show and burlesque dancers,” Mr Gaffney said.

“There will be raffles and prizes, including best dressed, on the night. It is going to be a huge evening of entertainment and fun.”

Music in the Moonlight holds a deep sentimental value for Mr Gaffney, who explained, “When I was young, my mother was responsible for organising the original event called 'Music in the Moonlight'. It was one of the biggest events of the year for the school and people showed up in droves to support the event and have fun. As a child, I used to help at the event and it was truly magical. It became the local 'night of nights', and even now over 30 years later, it is still happening in that community,” he said.

“My mother died when I was 17 and this event is my tribute to how amazing she was and her ability to bring people together. My goal is to make this a 'must do event' on the Sunshine Coast. I am very lucky to have a group of volunteers who feel just as passionately about this event as I do and with their help, we will make this a huge success.”

Tickets are now available to purchase and sales will close at midnight on October 6.

“It would be a fantastic opportunity to get a table of friends together, get dressed up and come out for a fantastic night of food, entertainment and fun,” said Mr Gaffney.

“We have tables of 2, 7 and 10 available at varying prices (or you can purchase a solo ticket and just join a random table).”

The P&C Association are also calling on sponsors to assist with donations for raffle prizes.

“We have been wonderfully supported already by The Country House at Hunchy, Tree Tops Accommodation, Rob Skelton, Maleny Chocolate Co., Pitchers Hospitality supplies, The Little Jazz Band, PUNK28, Palmwoods Pub, Love Handles BBQ, Burlesque L'amour and Divine Spark Entertainment.

“It is our plan to make this event the annual highlight of the Sunshine Coast social calendar, and I know that with the help of our fabulous community, we can make it happen.”
