Palmwoods artists Libby and Bee Mellor are showcasing their shared passion for watercolour in a joint exhibition titled New Beginnings. The show runs from 2–30 March at the Bribie Island Community Arts Centre, highlighting the pair’s expressive landscape and floral artworks inspired by nature and family tradition.

Libby’s work focuses on translating her outdoor experiences into expressive, free-flowing pieces. “It’s wonderful to have an opportunity to work alongside Mum [Bee], sharing our passion. My Grandpa would have been thrilled to see this exhibition!” she said. She adds that “New Beginnings is about big changes in our lives and exploring our new surroundings. My garden in Palmwoods has been a plethora of inspiration.”

Bee’s approach combines hand-painted watercolours with embroidery, capturing micro details of the local environment. “This exhibition is about us, joining together with mutual inspirations, celebrating our love of colour and the medium of watercolour,” she said.

Both artists draw on four generations of watercolourists in their family, channelling that heritage into modern techniques and bold compositions. Their distinct styles complement each other, offering visitors a captivating look at the interplay of colour, form, and texture.

New Beginnings exemplifies the Mellors’ artistic journey and their delight in forging new paths within a longstanding family tradition. For more details on opening times, visit www.bribieartscentre.com.au.
