Nambour Yandina United Football Club is still celebrating a remarkable year in which it claimed three historic victories.

NYU Men’s Premier League team broke a 47 year drought to claim their first Sunshine Coast premiership.

The Reds finished top of the table to lift the cup with a 7-2 win over Kawana before beating Noosa 6-3 on September 18.

Then, in the finals series the Women’s Premier League claimed the Champions Trophy with a Grand Final win against Caloundra last Friday night (Oct 15).

The Premier Reserve Men’s team followed their example to take out the Grand Final against Woombye a day later.

Promotion hopes dashed by Appollo on Gold Coast

Having wrapped up the Sunshine Coast Premiership Nambour Yandina United  Premier Men’s Premier League team travelled to the Gold Coast Friday night (October 22) vying for promotion to the Football Queensland Premier League 2 (FQPL2) Competition.

Unfortunately the Reds went down 4-1 after trailing 2-1 with just 5 minutes to go against Surfers Paradise Apollo at Underwood Park.

Surfers Paradise qualified for a spot in this weekends final.

Technical director and midfielder Korey Nix said the game slipped away only towards the end because they were pressing so hard for the win and left their goal vulnerable.

“It was a valiant effort considering we had five players out and limited selection options,” he said.

“Still we gave a great account for the club and for the Sunshine Coast and we’ll be there again next year vying for promotion.”

The chance at promotion came after NYUFC won its first Men's Premier League minor premiership in the club’s 47-year history.

But the team’s local Grand Final hopes were dashed when they were derailed in the semi  2-1 against Woombye.

• Meanwhile, Woombye FC also contested the Men's Premier League grand final going down 2-nil to Kawana.
