Nambour’s Bowder Lodge earns 5-star aged care status

Minister for Aged Care Anika Wells congratulates Sundale staff at Bowder Lodge for the Five-Star rating.

Sundale’s Bowder Lodge Care Centre in Nambour has been named the Sunshine Coast’s only Five-Star residential aged care home by the Australian Government.

The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety recommended developing and publishing Star Ratings based on measurable information so older Australians and their families could compare the quality and safety performance of every aged care home in Australia.

Last month Department of Health and Aged Care published the Star Ratings on the My Aged Care Website, which considered four categories, compliance, residents’ experience, staffing minutes and quality measures.

Sundale CEO Helen Sharpley said less than one per cent of all aged care homes nationally achieved a Five-Star rating.

“It’s an extraordinary achievement for the entire Bowder Lodge Care Centre team to be recognised as the best aged care home in Queensland by the Australian Government,” Ms Sharpley said.

“The Star Ratings allow older Australians and their loved ones to easily compare services and make informed choices.

“Out of a possible 20 points, Bowder Lodge Care Centre achieved 19, with five-out-of-five scores for compliance, staffing minutes and quality measures.

“Bowder Lodge surpassed he Australian Government’s Registered Nurse time targets by 44 per cent and nursing and personal care targets by 40 per cent.

“We’ve always been proud of the care we provide our residents and believed it was exceptional. Now we have proof.

“Next year Sundale will celebrate its 60th birthday. This acknowledgement by the Australian Government of the care, compassion and love we provide our residents is the perfect birthday gift, and fitting recognition for Sundale’s founding fathers and the Nambour community.”

Sundale’s other aged care homes, Aloaka Care Centre, Bindaree Care Centre, Coolum Waters Care Centre, James Grimes Care Centre, Palmwoods Garden Village Care Centre and Rotary Garden Village Care Centre all received Four-Star ratings by the Australian Government.
