Nambour Tram design to be unveiled at terminus opening
The Nambour Tramway Company will be unveiling the design of its much anticipated Tram at the official opening of the terminus on Wednesday March 31.
Nambour Tramway Company Chairman Greg Rogerson said the name of the successful constructor would also be revealed at the Official Opening at 10am at the Western Terminus (pictured right) near the Nambour Mill Village Shopping Centre in Mill St.
“Unfortunately only invited guests are requested to attend as we are strictly obligated to comply with COVID 19 Regulations,” said Mr Rogerson.
The next day, Thursday April 1 between 10am and 3pm, Nambour Tramway Company is opening the Western Terminus to the public for their long awaited viewing. “And we are pleased to announce that Nambour’s own Sundale, will partner TNTCo Board Members in welcoming everyone,” said Mr Rogerson. “Also, at 4pm on Wednesday we are acknowledging the valuable assistance afforded by the many trades and service personnel who have work on the Terminus, by having a barbecue especially for them.”
Member for Fairfax Ted O’Brien will open the facility, which also includes an information centre. Mr O’Brien said reactivating the heritage-listed tramline would give the former sugar town a nostalgic point of difference.
“I’m honoured to be asked to open the new terminus and I can’t wait to get on board this piece of theatre and travel along the beautiful streets of Nambour.
“For me, this tramway is a metaphor for Nambour … it has stood the test of time, with a clear line of sight between its past and future.”
Works finished last year on the Nambour Tramway Depot (Western Terminus) building and works are almost finished on the tramway tracks and signalling as the town edges closer to having a Tram again running through its CBD.
“I was delighted to be able to secure half a million dollars of Federal funding, awarded through the National Stronger Regions Fund,” said Mr O’Brien. “And I pay tribute to TNT Co, the Council, the Nambour community, and in particular Roy & Nola Thompson for their generosity.”
