‘When you get right down to it, making excellent coffee is a fine art’

A fascination for the chemistry and techniques of brewing beautiful coffee motivated the new owner of Nambour’s Tilt Espresso, Alec Galvin, to take on the business late last year.

“I had been working as a barista at Tilt since February 2021, so it was a pretty easy transition,” said Alec.

“I think what prompted me to become a barista is that I just got tired of making myself bad coffee,” laughed Alec.

“When you get right into it, making excellent coffee is a fine art. There are so many variables, including coffee blends, brewing techniques and varieties of milk, I didn’t realise how much of a rabbit hole I was going into when I first started.”

While Tilt Espresso had become a local favourite because of the baking of previous owner Dee, Alec has chosen to simplify the menu.

“I have kept the simple, fresh and easy food options such as burgers, wraps, sandwiches, cakes and slices,” he said. “All the menu options that regulars really love.”

Alec uses Moondog blend from Eumundi Coffee and has also added a couple of single origin filter coffees.

“I will be offering high quality espresso based drinks and now my focus is on making Tilt a coffee destination for true coffee aficionados. Because there is absolutely nothing better than a good cup of coffee”.
