Family celebrates as fabulous Fred turns 101

Fred Sandell, 101, of Nambour cuts his birthday cake.

Nambour resident Frederick Sandell turned 101 on Saturday January 15. Daughter Mirth Fabbro said Fred’s nephew and wife drove up from Wollongong to share in the family celebrations.

“We had a party at my home with family and respective partners. Dad had a lovely day complete with a double vanilla sponge cake.”

Mr Sandell had the same career his entire working life. He began as a commercial accountant in December 1935 as a junior clerk with Australian Iron and Steel Ltd at Port Kembla NSW. His career finished in Rockhampton in 1989 when Mr Sandell retired from Australian Provincial Newspapers as assistant manager.

In 2013, when Mr Sandell was 92, he was acknowledged with a 70 years of Membership from CPA Australia.

It was only about four years ago Fred and his wife Jean sold their Kenilworth property, which had been in the family for 100 years, and moved to Nambour to be closer to Mirth.
