Last year saw the passing of long time Nambour business identity and Nambour 76 Rotary Club member, Bob Sellers. Bob, pictured, had been a Rotary member all his adult life and was a member of Nambour 76 for over 20 years.

Many locals may remember Bob from his role as the Commonwealth Bank Manager in Nambour.

“Bob was very passionate about Rotary and all the great things Rotary does,” said current Nambour 76 Rotary President, Alex Blake. “He was a supporter of Rotary International, especially the Rotary Foundation, and would often speak to us at the club about what they were doing in the world.”

“I first met Bob through Rotary, back in 2005,” Mr Blake said. “He was a significant member of not only our club, but other Rotary clubs he had been involved with for over 60 years. Bob was very passionate about Rotary and it’s values. He really was an example of someone who upheld those values every day in his own life. Bob was an extremely likeable man whom many people looked up to and on occasion, sought counsel from. He was just that type of man.”

“Bob was always the first to turn up and volunteer and was heavily involved in all kinds of fundraising activities and projects that benefited so many people in our community,” Mr Blake said. “For a time, he was on the Board of Sundale as a Rotary representative.

“Education was extremely important to him, as it is to the broader Rotary organisation. And Bob was a great supporter of the many Rotary youth programs.

“In recognition of Bob’s contribution to Rotary and our community, a University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) sponsorship was arranged with our club,” Mr Blake said.

“Bob Sellars’ family were not only touched by our endeavours to recognize Bob, they also offered a financial contribution to the Sponsorship,” he said. “The first recipient of that Sponsorship was a local worthy recipient, Zara Auld.”

With the support of Gordon Downing & Tristan Lindner of Downing Lindner Accountants, Steve Gibbons, a life member of Nambour 76 Rotary Club also decided to sponsor a Student, and Courtney Tyson was chosen. Steve named the Sponsorship the Errol Gibbons Nambour 76 Rotary Scholarship.

“Greg Bradley from the USC kindly gave up his time to attend our meeting on the 12th August with the two ladies to receive their Scholarship Certificates,” Mr Blake said. “The Nambour 76 Rotary club is pleased to support two such worthy recipients. The added bonus is that they are both local ladies.”
