Tourism gurus featured in hinterland TV special
A Channel 9 lifestyle program will features several locals at the heart of the Sunshine Coast hinterland’s vibrant tourism community.
My Way’s Sunshine Coast Hinterland special airs nationally at 1pm on Saturday, October 22.
The show will feature zookeeper Jarrod Schenk who found his calling amid uncertainty when his workplace, Alma Park Zoo, was closed after 40 years for a housing development.
So Jarrod took matters into his own hands and created Wildlife HQ, a sanctuary for the exotic animals he considers family.
Now his vision has become his own zoo, used as an education platform for wildlife conservation.
Then Nick and Mel Morris from Fat Wren Farm introduce their homegrown fruit.
Along with a selection of their neighbours’ produce, Nick and Mel’s jams, sauces, relishes and preserves are selling in spades at Eumundi Original Markets.
Each jar supports local growers and spreads the love to tastebuds near and far.
The show then highlights Swiss master cheesemaker Markus Bucher who formed the award-winning family cheesery with his wife Sara.
Together they created Maleny Cheese in 2004 and their handcrafted selections have become a staple on grazing boards since.
Thinking of innovative ways to infuse taste into each cheese, they are sharing their success and secret recipes to continue reinventing the cheese wheel for generations to come.
There is also a story of enduring love in high school sweethearts George and Aldy Johnson who developed Secrets on the Lake into a world renowned destination (see story facing page).
The national encore edition of My Way will go to air on Saturday, October 22, at 1pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
