FORMER Montville Motor Inn proprietors turned podcasters Lyle and Leanne McCabe are doing their bit to promote their old hometown to new visitors.

The travel-obsessed McCabes podcast about their roams and have released a podcast about Montville to encourage people to explore the town.

It talks about Russell Family Park, the cafes, shops, the Montrose water wheel and paints a picture of its buildings, gardens of roses, and laneways.

“It’s like a paradise. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it, apart from maybe in Europe,” Lyle says.

The McCabes podcast under the name beachtravelwine and have released about 100 shows over the past two years.

The Montville podcast is part of their Aussie Summer Series, which they have been working on while home at Kings Beach.

The couple fell into podcasting as a way to share their experiences as they got into travelling after selling their Montville business in 2019.

“It started when we were overseas. I like listening to podcasts so we started podcasting and it’s just something we enjoy doing together.

“We’re retired. We have the time.”

Their simple, friendly, conversational podcasts, which talk about what to do, where to stay, and how to get around in the places they visit, have listeners in 120 countries.

The McCabes’ podcasting strength is that they are relatable and do not pitch themselves as anything but normal people looking for normal weekends away or holidays.

“We’re not backpackers, we’re not big adventurers, we’re not trying to go across the world in a panel van. We walk around, see things and look them up.”

Leanne said creating the podcasts enhanced their own travel experiences.

“When you’re trying to make things interesting for other people, you see things in more detail,” she said.

The weekly podcasts are a good way for the McCabes’ blended family of four adult children and eight grandchildren to keep up with where they are, and will form a travel diary for the couple to look back on in their later years.

“Lyle says one day we’ll listen back to them so we can remember where we’ve been,” Leanne said.

• Expect to find some podcasts on Europe on www.beachtravelwine.com later in the year when the McCabes set off on another trip.
