Montville Growers & Makers Market stays true to its home-grown founding ethos

The Montville Growers and Makers Market, held on the second Saturday of every month, is always special because of its unique community atmosphere. The market recently celebrated its 15th birthday with a huge cake and a display of photos taken over the past 15 years.

Local artist, Judith Sinnamon, conceived the original idea to start the market, her primary aim being to promote community interaction and participation and support local food producers and craftspeople.

In addition, many people chip in to serve the pancakes. And 15 years later, some of those children (now grown-up) and many of the original parents still volunteer.

As the market has grown, so have the number of community volunteers who generously give  their time every month to make the market happen.

Many other markets have come and gone in the past 15 years, but the Montville Growers and Makers Market is still going strong and remains true to its original objectives of bringing the community together and supporting our local growers and makers.

The pancake breakfasts, which are cooked and served by volunteers, are more popular than ever. And the market is still the place where many members of our community regularly meet to catch up with friends and family and do their food and gift shopping in the beautiful setting of Montville’s Historical Precinct.

The market committee would like to thank all the volunteers who have contributed to the market over the past 15 years. Without you, we would not be celebrating this special anniversary.

If anyone feels inspired to be part of the volunteer crew that helps to bring our Montville Growers and Makers Market to life, please complete the application form and return it to Alison Rexa, Volunteer Coordinator: arexa@bigpond.net.au. Next Market Saturday August 10.
