New Mapleton mural celebrates local wildlife
A new mural has been painted on the Mapleton Library Community Centre by local artist Tom Davies who has brought life to our community building.
Within two weeks, the community had a celebration of local animals on the popular meeting place’s front wall. Tom included a kookaburra, a koala, a water dragon and a family of ducks. Visitors and residents alike have been enjoying the images which have been sent overseas. Mapleton Queensland is on the map!
‘Art in public places’ brings to a community beauty, conversation, engagement and vitality. As part of the Mapleton art trail the art in public places attracts visitors and strengthens the local economy making this a celebration across many quarters. The initiative was made possible thanks to the generosity of residents who donated funds to pay for the mural and due to the foresight of the volunteers of the Library Community Centre and members of Mapleton Art.
To bring smiles is a valued gift and all the fore-mentioned have done just that. The crowd enjoyed meeting Tom and Ellie at the launch. Mapleton IGA donated the nibbles, and bubbles were supplied by the Library Community Centre.
Councillor David Law joined the crowd and took the opportunity to congratulate Tom and to chat to numerous community members. Centre President Nita Lester said having Cr Law present was important as this was a relaxing and fun outing for him and everyone appreciated his support.
The mural has been added to the Mapleton Art Trail so do stop in to Mapleton, collect a trail brochure from the Library Community Centre verandah and have fun finding the art hidden around the village.
