Mapleton Art Auction response exceeds expectations
The Mapleton Art Auction, described as “something out of the ordinary” by organisers, is already exceeding expectations with double the anticipated number of artworks up for grabs.
Online bidding commenced on March 15, and will conclude with an exciting live auction at the Mapleton Library Community Centre on Saturday, April 5. Viewing begins at 2.30pm, followed by the auction at 3.30pm.
The concept was developed by local artists to offer a service to those who wish to downsize or declutter.
Many people invested in art back in the 1970s and 1980s but now have no room to hang them in their smaller residences.
“We hoped for 40 lots, but we have 90 lots available for viewing from internationally recognised Australian indigenous to English, New Zealand and Australian artists,” said committee member Nita C Lester.
“There is something for everyone. The auction includes works by artists such as Rex Backhaus-Smith, Kelly Dixon, Nyarapayi Giles, Chris Postle and Maureen Nampinjimpa Hudson.”
The reserve prices range from $35 up to over $8000, so all budgets are catered for. There is even a framed William’s Formula One racing car poster.
The funds raised will allow for more Art in Public Spaces for Mapleton. This project kicked off in 2024 and more murals and sculptures are ready to be funded.
The Mapleton Men’s Shed has a mural designed, and two sculptors designed an art work a work that would grace the village. The project will bring visitors to the region resulting in a stronger economic environment.
