Talks with Council helps avert Maleny Lane music shutdown

About 350 people gathered in support of live music at Maleny Lane recently.

Crisis talks with the council appear to have helped avert the closure of Maleny’s popular live music nights at Maleny Lane.

Organiser Steve McLeish said the Monday night “FrontUp Chalkboard” and Friday Night “Twilight Dinner and Music Night” would continue.

The news follows meetings with Sunshine Coast Council which found that an application for a different licence for the venue might solve the issue.

Mr McLeish said that by operating as a “market” instead of a “food court”, it would be permitted to continue its open mic and live entertainment nights.

The Monday and Friday weekly events held in the Maleny Lane were given a recent deadline to shut down after the council received noise complaints.

“I would like to thank the Maleny community for their amazing support,” Mr McLeish said.

“We had over 200 letters of support and 4000 signatures on the petition as well as 350 people gathering in support of live music at the Maleny Lane. This indicates the importance of music and arts in our community.  Live music creates opportunities for our young people, generates and stimulates wellbeing within the community and benefits the local economy.”
