A Dutton led LNP Government would provide $202,000 to local community organisations on the front line of the cost-of-living crisis to improve low-cost housing options for local families, if elected at the upcoming federal election.

Federal Member for Fairfax, Ted O’Brien, announced the funding package on Thursday  (February 27) while speaking with local organisations in Nambour.

The package will support the work of Kyabra, Sunny Kids and Coast2Bay.

“Following ongoing consultation and engagement with the Nambour and Hinterland community, it’s clear that a priority for the region is more support to tackle the current housing crisis, especially for those in our community who are most vulnerable,” Mr O’Brien said.

“The cost-of-living crisis is hitting hard and people are hurting. That’s why the LNP is committing this funding package to help front line community services provide suitable accommodation options for Sunshine Coast families who are struggling now.

“I will continue to support local organisations that provide housing and support to the homeless and people in need and stand up for the people of Nambour and the Hinterland.”

Sunny Kids Corporate Services Manager, Kym Chomley, said the funding would support the not-for-profit charity in providing crisis support and services to vulnerable families.

“Receiving this funding will help SunnyKids support families struggling with the cost-of-living crisis, while a dedicated storage shed will allow us to store and distribute items to our families we support,” Ms Chomley said.

Kyabra CEO, Jean Griffin, said the funding would help provide a home-like environment at the shelter that is safe and nurturing.

“That we can provide an outdoor space that is fun for the children and attractive and peaceful for the women that we support is all an essential part of the healing process,” Mrs Griffin said.

“This grant will support this goal and we are thankful for the support of Ted O’Brien in seeing this come to fruition.”
