Lind Lane comedy explores retirement village mischief

Dennis Coleman returns to the stage at the Lind Theatre as Jonas, along with Rochelle Cameron as Rosie.

Nambour’s Lind Lane Theatre has assembled a highly experienced and talented cast for its next play, Jonas and Barry in the Home

This heart-warming comedy by Canadian playwright Norm Foster tells the story of Barry Butterfield, who has moved reluctantly into a seniors community at the urging of his daughter, Rosie, who wants to keep an eye on him.

Barry is sinking into apathy until he meets a new resident, the outgoing Jonas, who very quickly determines to take Barry under his wing and see what mischief these two “lads” can get up to in a retirement village.

Director Joy Hinckley was delighted to coax Dennis Coleman back to the Lind after an absence of 10 years, to play Jonas. “I have many fond memories of performing at the Lind,” says Dennis. “The Opposite Sex, Treasure Island, and Farewell Brisbane Ladies are some of the plays that come to mind.”

He is joined by a veteran of the Sunshine Coast theatre scene in Andrew Moon, who plays Barry. Andrew performed for many years on stage and TV in Sydney before moving north. He has performed as the Narrator in Rocky Horror Show, Lurch in Addams Family – The Musical, and also played Richard in David Williamson’s Cruise Control.

Rounding out the cast for this three-hander is Rochelle Cameron, fresh from her role in Jill Shearer’s The Boat at Buderim Hall.

• Jonas and Barry in the Home starts at Lind Lane Theatre on July 1st. There will be six shows, including three matinees. For bookings, go to www.lindlane.com.au/whats-on or phone 1300 732 764.
