Lighting and art initiative unveiled to revitalise Nambour CBD
Nambour’s iconic town centre will be shining more brightly thanks to new lighting and public art displays unveiled recently by Federal Member for Fairfax Ted O’Brien.
The Nambour Lights Up Project launched on 8 June at Tram Co as part of the Reimagine Nambour initiative to revitalise Nambour and kick start urban renewal of the CBD.
Federal Member for Fairfax Ted O’Brien joined with the Reimagine Nambour Committee, the Nambour Tramway Company and members of the community to celebrate the completion of the five new lighting installations and three public art pieces now on display around the town.
Mr O’Brien worked with local community leaders and former Sunshine Coast Councillor Greg Rogerson to help secure $500,000 from the Federal Government in 2020 to drive the renewal of the historic town.
“Nambour is one of the unique places in Australia where the values of the past and the opportunities of the future coexist,” said Mr O’Brien.
“The new lighting will highlight some of the town’s murals as well as historic areas like the Old Ambulance Centre.
“The new public art displays will complement the existing artwork depicting the history, character and personality of Nambour.”
Former Councillor Greg Rogerson has seen Nambour through some years of challenge following the closure of the Moreton sugar mill in 2003. He has been one of the driving forces behind Reimagine Nambour to help attract more investment into the local economy.
“The Nambour community is proud of their distinct identity and we are looking forward to a bright future,” said Mr Rogerson.
“This project is part of a 20-year plan to stimulate growth and investment, whilst also preserving Nambour’s unique cultural and historical identity.”
