More than 100 people contributed to a collaborative mosaic that was unveiled last week to celebrate 25 years of community work at Maleny Neighbourhood Centre.

“As many people know, our centre is the heart of our Maleny community,” said president Ian Demack. “We deliver a range of important services and have a fabulous cohort of volunteers who support our community. What people may not know is that our centre offers support to individuals, families and communities including Kenilworth, Conondale, Witta, Bald Knob, Mount Mellum, Montville, Flaxton and all the way to Mapleton.

“Over the coming months and into 2021 we anticipate that the activities of our centre will be pivotal in supporting our community in navigating through the impact of COVID19.”

Experienced collaborative mosaic artist Brett Campbell oversaw the intricate artwork which involved coordinating 100-plus community members, staff and volunteers to create the mosaic of 124 pieces. Despite the numbers Mr Campbell said he enjoyed the project. “There were 100 people involved in the mosaic and so there’s a lot of energy involved and that’s why it’s so vibrant,” he said. “People are beautiful when working on a piece of art like this. It brings peace and relaxation to everyone involved. It’s something that’s wonderful, colourful and fun.”
