International Sister Cities Book Club program

Xiamen, China, and the Sunshine Coast have developed strong cultural, business and educational linkages through the International Sister Cities program.

A book club participation with Xiamen, also including the other Sister Cities of Baltimore, Wellington, Richmond and Sarasota, was organised by retired councillor, Jenny Mackay, and 50 copies of William N. Brown’s “Off the Wall. How We Fell for China” were given to residents to explore.

Readers participated singly and in groups from across the coast including 25 members from the Sunshine Coast Friendship Force club. An international zoom meeting was held to allow each country to ask questions of the author in a very interesting discussion about his cultural experiences.

Representatives from the groups met today in Nambour for a final wrap-up to receive a certificate and a thank-you bag from Friends of Xiamen Book Club 2023.
