50c fares gives hinterland towns a rail advantage

Nambour and hinterland towns are reaping the benefits of the State Government’s bold 50c rail fare scheme.

I am Nambour’s Rhonda Billett said the affordable ticket initiative has spurred a surge in day-trippers from Brisbane, keen to explore Nambour’s op shopping, cafés and heritage trails.

Ms Billett said the hinterland’s transport advantage was clearly setting it apart, even as coastal areas await their rail links.

“Nambour is ahead of the curve and has fast become a destination to visit,” Ms Billett said. I Am Nambour has incorporated Transport footage in its latest Nambour video series with the support and assistance of local State members, Queensland Rail and the Queensland Department of Transport.

“Our concept post about catching the train from Brisbane to Nambour to go Op Shopping and visit our local cafes recently went viral. We were inundated by people, mostly from the Brisbane catchment, sending us messages enquiring about hopping on a train, visiting Nambour for the day and asking us what coffee shops to visit and wanting info on the Nambour Vintage/Op Shop Shopping Trail. We will be promoting this further in the future.

“We really want locals and business owners to know that visitor interest in Nambour is growing. I am Nambour monthly digital reports tell us what people are looking for and are interested in doing when they visit Nambour, which is giving us some solid direction with Nambour business concepts and initiatives for the future.

“We have something in Nambour that areas on the Sunshine Coast don’t have, that being passenger rail. And with the cost of living putting pressure on household budgets, a day out in Nambour is affordable and something a bit different and as always, it’s a fun day out.”
