Healing Touch course offers patient support skills
After 21 years’ experience in nursing, Woombye’s Veronika Oliver, pictured, is teaching Healing Touch courses for nurses and other allied health care professionals.
Veronika said touch skills learned in the course would support patients’ recovery, increase comfort and provide relief from pain.
“I think when people first think of energy-based work, they consider it to be a bit ‘woo woo’. But in reality, it is very strongly grounded in scientific principles, and part of Anatomy and Physiology texts that are used in Nursing and Medical courses today,” Veronika said. “Healing Touch was originally developed as a continuing education program for nurses in the US.
“Over time, Healing Touch courses have been opened up to all health care professionals and individuals who wish to broaden their professional or personal abilities by incorporating energy-based concepts into their standard medical and health care practices. It also has wonderful applications for those working in the disability sector.”
Veronika is a Certified Healing Touch Practitioner with the Australian Foundation for Healing Touch, an organisation that was founded in 1997. Health practitioners such as nurses, physiotherapists, are essentially ‘hands on’ when it comes to treatment of patients and by understanding the principles of energy, can gain skills to aid patients that do not respond to standard skills. “The techniques are subtle but incredibly powerful, not only as a tool for the practitioner, but to enhance outcomes for patients and clients,” she said.
