Moment in Time: Anzac Day at Gympie Road, Nambour, 1961

Anzac day history.jpg

Thanks to the efforts of Shire Clerk Arthur Henry Brooks and an enthusiastic fund-raising committee, a War Memorial was erected in a small park beside Gympie Road (now Coronation Avenue).

Traffic was diverted for Anzac Day ceremonies, which were held at the location from 1928 to 1989.

A replica cenotaph in Quota Park was consecrated on 22 April 1990 and here Anzac ceremonies are performed in a more peaceful setting to this day.

A plaque from the original cenotaph etched with a text from the Bible, “And Their Names Liveth Forever More” was removed and  is now on display at  Nambour Museum.
