A Nambour bakery has opened its doors to retail customers seven days a week in order to meet demand from its growing customer base.

The Gourmet Storr now bakes seven days a week, after previously offering a retail service on Saturdays only.

“We were getting so many requests to open every day that we decided to give it a go,” laughed owner, Mel Storr.

Mel and her baker-husband Chris have been running The Gourmet Storr as a wholesale bakery for around two years. They supply Chris’s delicious bread to restaurants and cafes around the coast.

With 24 years of experience under his belt, it’s safe to say that Chris really knows his stuff when it comes to baking.

“I started baking when I was 16 and I guess over time, you get to know what works when it comes to what people want to eat,” Chris said.

“I have found that people really love ‘old school’ baked goods and so do we. That is why we choose to make these products.”

“Pretty much anything that Chris makes turns out to be delicious,” Mel said. “There have been very few ‘bad’ products. He is just a natural,” sais Mel.

Customers of The Gourmet Storr will be delighted to see such a mouthwatering range of traditional bakery favourites on the shelves.

“We have sausage rolls, muffins, bee stings, almond croissants, fruit cake, vanilla slices, hedgehog slices, caramilk slices and freshly made salad rolls, plus there are more items to come,” Mel said. “Due to space limitations we will change and rotate items. And we will also be introducing pie flavours in the near future, we are just perfecting the recipes first.”

“Chris recently made the most amazing vegetarian ‘sausage’ roll with spinach, ricotta and pumpkin,” Mel said. “It was delicious and a ‘must try’ even if you are not vegetarian.”

“I have my own rocky road recipe that I thought I would make and it has proven to be a hit with our customers,” said Chris. “So it will stay on the menu.”

“I don’t even like rocky road but when I tried Chris’ recipe, it was so yum that I went back for more!” said Mel.

Chris also bakes a range of beautiful breads including white, wholemeal, grain, fruit and cobb loaves and sourdough. “Our sourdough loaves are very popular,” said Mel. “We have plain sourdough as well as jalapenos and cheddar, sundried tomato and feta and kalamata olive and rosemary. These loaves are delicious as a sandwich, with a meal, or on their own.”

“Chris is an incredible baker and we are so excited that we can share our food with locals every day now,” Mel said.

The Gourmet Storr is located at Shop 5, 186 Currie Street, Nambour and there is plenty of parking. Facebook page @TheGourmetStorr.
