The last showman, Queensland's legendary Fred Brophy, is calling out local challengers for his boxing tent coming to Nambour this weekend at Crusher Park.

Nambour Rugby League Club spokesperson Wendy Turner said interest was high with many would-be challengers putting up their hand to duke it out with Brophy's best.

"Quite a few locals have contacted the club in the hope of getting in the ring and having a go," said Wendy. "People putting their name down saying it's been on their bucket list for years. One guy said he tried to get a fight at Kilcoy a few years ago but missed out because there were too many contenders. So he is throwing his hat in the ring this weekend in the hope of a stoush."

Thursday 28th October is a ‘Come and Chat with Fred’ evening at the clubhouse from 7pm. He will be joined by local boxing identity Darren Obah and there will plenty of interesting stories shared with the audience. Cost is $30 per person for a two-hour package including nibbles and refreshments.

Friday and Saturday (29 & 30 October) will see Fred’s big boxing marquee set up on the footy field. Gates open from 6pm with canteen and bar facilities available. Cost is $40 per night.

• To win a double pass to Friday night’s boxing simply ‘Like’ Nambour Rugby League Club’s Facebook page and comment on the Friday night event ‘Win with Sunshine Valley Gazette’. Winner will be contacted by Thursday at 5pm. Otherwise, tickets can be purchased by calling the club on 0436 381 404. Tickets will also be available at the ticket office.
