Fashionable again: Inside Nambour’s vintage-inspired clothing shop

An eye for quality and a love of vintage fashion was the inspiration for Vicki Lee to start her business, Mr Beesley Vintage Clothing in Nambour.

“I had spent a lot of my life working in the fashion industry,” Vicki explained.

“As a mum, I wanted flexibility around my kids and so the idea for this business was born. The thought of doing my own thing really appealed to me.”

Nine years ago, Vicki started “treasure hunting” for quality mens and womens clothing and accessories to start her vintage clothing business. Before long she had built up a collection of beautiful stock.

“I set aside $20 every week and spent the weekends going to Op Shops and garage sales to find clothing and homewares,” said Vicki.

“I would wash or clean and mend each piece as required. It is so exciting and a lot of fun to find unique pieces.”

Starting small, Vicki had a rack of garments at the Time Machine in Nambour and soon moved her stock into a space at the Old Ambulance Station in Howard Street.

“I was located at the Old Ambulance Station for 7 years, and then moved to this shop 2 years ago,” she said. “It has been a great spot.”

Mr Beesley Vintage Clothing has become popular with people from all around the country.

“It is so funny that a lot of my regular customers are in Canberra and interstate,” said Vicki.

“Now I find that people are bringing lovely stock to me, and while there is less treasure hunting involved on my part, it is still a great deal of fun.

“I love the quality of vintage clothing and accessories. The styles, cuts and fabrics are just so beautiful. And the best thing is that each piece is so unique. You don’t see every other person wearing the same outfit!”

• Mr Beesley Vintage Clothing is at 29a, Howard Street Nambour. Phone 0457 099 829.
