While the pandemic has had a huge impact on the arts scene, there is one genre that seems to have flourished since coming out of lockdown.  A regular jazz event, The Jazz Sessions, has been hugely popular with patrons at Forest Glen.

The Jazz Sessions transforms a popular brewery into an intimate jazz club.  “People have really enjoyed being able to get out, enjoy a meal and soak up some world-class jazz from some of the most talented musicians in Australia,” says organiser, Robyn Brown who is also a jazz singer.

“The patrons keep coming back as we present such high-quality acts.   Being able to listen to incredible music while you’re enjoying a meal and sipping a glass of wine seems to be a combination that really works.”

Though the last event had to be cancelled due to the latest lockdown, The Jazz Sessions is coming back with a bang with a spectacular night of jazz on Sunday Aug 22nd  at the Glass House Brewery, Forest Glen.

Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald

“We decided to combine two events into one for a huge jazz experience,” says Robyn.  “The first part of the evening will be a Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, which will then be followed by a jazz jam session”

Prepare to spend a night listening to jazz music performed by one of the most talented jazz ensembles in Queensland. Top local jazz musicians Robyn Brown, Marnix van Bruggen, Peter Walters and Max Sportelli present a Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald for the first part of the evening.

Ella Fitzgerald was arguably the greatest female jazz singer the world has known. Dubbed “The First Lady of Song”, she had a career that spanned over 50 years.

Her rich, lyrical voice, her innate musicality which allowed her to swing with the band and improvise solos just like her instrument-playing counterparts, and her joy in performance was an inspiration to every jazz singer that has followed behind her.

Enjoy the songs and stories of one of the most influential and acclaimed figures in the world of jazz.

Jazz Sessions Jam

After that you will be part of the first ever Jazz Sessions Jam Session. With the house band leading the night, jazz musicians will be able to come along and join in for a ‘jam’.  “It’s thrilling to see and it’s a trait specific to jazz that is incredibly special,” said Robyn.

Any professional, amateur, or student jazz musician is invited to bring their instruments and get in on the action. If you’re a musician who would like to participate, please register your interest by email to info@sassyjazz.com.au.

A great jam session can be like a fantastic conversation, introducing you to new musical ideas and perspectives. Come along for a night where you can sit back, relax, enjoy a two-course meal, sip on your drink and enjoy a true jazz experience.  Tickets are $54 +bf which include a two-course meal.  Book online – www.stickytickets.com.au/TheJazzSessions
