Deprivation of liberty, Nambour. Car hits home, Palmwoods. Truck crash, Woombye

Officers tracked the vehicle in an unmarked police car before successfully deploying a tyre deflation device on Nambour Connection Road near the Big Pineapple.

Police have charged a man after he allegedly held a woman against her will and assaulted another man.

It will be alleged around 6.30pm on September 16, a 21-year-old man threatened a woman who was known to him and demanded she get into a Mazda 3 he was driving.

Officers tracked the vehicle in an unmarked police car before successfully deploying a tyre deflation device on Nambour Connection Road near the Big Pineapple.

It will be further alleged the man accelerated away before proceeding through a red light and crashing into a Toyota Camry at the intersection with Maroochydore Road.

The man fled from the Mazda 3 and ran into the north-bound traffic of the Bruce Highway.

A Rav4 stopped and the man allegedly punched the driver, a 64-year-old man, in the head several times before pulling him from the vehicle. The 21-year-old man got into the vehicle and attempted to drive away, however a 52-year-old woman in the passenger seat pressed the “push button” to stop the car.

The man was unable to start the vehicle again as the driver, who had the proximity keys in his pocket, was not in the vehicle.

Police then arrested the man.

The 21-year-old Nambour man has been charged with one count of deprivation of liberty (DV offence), robbery with violence and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He was due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court yesterday, September 17.

Mangled mess: Car hits home in Palmwoods

A serious accident occurred at the intersection of Harris Drive and Chevallum Road in Palmwoods on September 11, with residents narrowly avoiding tragedy.

Local resident Geoff Brown, who lives near the scene, described the terrifying incident, explaining how he saw the speeding vehicle moments before it crashed into a house.

“I had just arrived home from bowls and saw the driver coming down Harris Drive at a great rate of speed,” Mr Brown said. “I heard the explosion when it connected with the house on Chevallum Road.”

Mr Brown and his wife could have been directly in the path of the vehicle if they had returned home just minutes earlier.

“My wife and I would be dead if we came home two or three minutes before we did,” he said. “If there was any traffic along Chevallum Road, they would be dead.”

While no injuries were reported, Mr Brown noted the driver emerged from the wreck seemingly unhurt but shouting, “It isn’t my fault!”

The damage to the vehicle, however, was extensive. “It was a mangled mess of iron and plastic, rather than a motor vehicle,” Mr Brown said.
