Makers Tent at Show dedicated to arts, crafts (and hearts)
Lynda Tomkins teaches Alicia Smedley the fine art of crochet in preparation for the Show, which will be hosting a free crochet workshop in the Makers Tent on Saturday 14th June.
In a first for the Sunshine Coast Agricultural Show, attendees will be invited to participate in a range of activities inside the new “Makers Tent”. An open marquee, dedicated to learning & finessing the art of crochet, knitting and other crafting skills will be available for people of all ages to drop in throughout the show weekend. Yarns, needles, hooks and one-on-one assistance will all be provided.
To commemorate World Wide Knit In Public Day (also known as World Wide Knit and Crochet in Public Day according to Crochet Australia), the Show will be hosting a free crochet workshop in the Makers Tent on Saturday 14th June. Participants will be taught and guided through the process of making a hand-made crocheted heart.
The hearts can then be worn by the maker as a hair-pin or brooch, &/or given to someone in the community. The combined vision of Lynda Tomkins from Crochet Australia and organisers of this year’s Show is to see hundreds of people wearing hearts and even more being handed to people throughout our community who may feel forgotten or lonely.
It’s a wonderful opportunity for children and adults alike to learn and enjoy the art of crochet and take home something handmade from their local Agricultural Show.
Aligning perfectly with the Show’s theme of “Connecting with Community” experts will connect with participants in the Makers tent and the connection will also extend beyond into the wider neighbourhood. Make a heart; Wear a heart; Give a heart; at this year’s Agricultural Show.
The Makers Tent will be open from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 June with the Crochet Hearts workshop operating on Saturday 14 June from 10am to 2pm.
