Joyce and Nev Killip were married at Nambour Methodist Church in Maud Street in 1950.

Joyce and Nev Killip met at the dances in Nambour a couple of years after World War II ended. They had a three year courtship before being married at The Nambour Methodist Church in Maud Street on October 21 1950.

Today they will celebrate their 70th anniversary with family and friends at their Nambour home.

After they were married the new couple travelled by train to Coolangatta for the Honeymoon, accommodation being £4.50 a week.

Joyce and Nev have four children: twin daughters Nancy and Janice, Noel and Allison. All live in Nambour. They also have eight grandchildren, six great-grand children and another on the way.

Joyce is 90 and was born in Nambour. Nev is 95 and moved to Forest Glen when he was 18. Nev farmed at Forest Glen. He grew a variety of small crops, mainly beans and loved his dogs.

His interests include growing vegetables and he’s a great handyman. He worked for years for the main roads. Then as a ganger with local council he helped build many of Nambour’s streets.

Nev  built two homes, the first at Forest Glen using timber off the land. They sold the farm and moved to Nambour in 1969.

Joyce was a seamstress and continues to sew. She keeps her mind active and enjoys craft, doing jigsaw puzzles and crosswords and volunteers at Sundale Aged Care and Nambour Show and involves herself with church activities.

Both have enjoyed overseas holidays and have travelled by caravan around Australia twice. They have been blessed with a good life together and with family living nearby. Happy anniversary!
