Club Yandina bowls for remembrance, digs deep for charity

The sun shone brightly on Sunday August 25 where two bowling greens at Club Yandina were full of happy bowlers ready to help a good cause.

The annual Memorial Bowls Day is a combined function to celebrate & remember  members who are no longer with us, and to raise funds for Bloomhill Cancer Care.

Members of Club Yandina were joined by a contingent of bowlers from Otematata on the South Island of New Zealand. They had been touring various bowls clubs in the Sunshine Coast and Yandina was one town on their itinerary and it happened to fall on the same day as the Memorial Day.

Club Chairman, Leon Granzien, transported the Kiwis in the club’s Courtesy bus from their accommodation at Alexandra Headlands to & from Club Yandina, where they were treated to the usual country hospitality, with a delicious BBQ lunch, a fun game of bowls, followed by nibbles  to round off the day.  A few of their members were also lucky enough to win prizes in the raffle on the day.

Bloomhill Cancer Care is a not-for-profit charity and has been providing cancer support services to the Sunshine Coast community for 25 years.

A number of club members have benefited from the services of Bloomhill Cancer Care over the years and Club Yandina aims to donate annually to help in a small way to assist with this service.

This year’s function raised $1600 which will be presented to Bloomhill over the next couple of weeks.
