Classes to inspire young artists to bloom

Chony Bowden works with Bruno Manzoupo on a painting. Chony will be running visual arts workshops for kids in Yandina.

Yandina’s Stevens Street Gallery and Chony’s Art Room are combining to present a local art school for children aged 7-13 years.

Facilitated by local artist Chony Bowden, classes will run from April 19 encouraging students to explore a  variety of materials, art techniques and styles that inspire the inner artist to bloom.

“I have been running visual arts workshops on the Coast for people with disabilities for some time,” Chony said.

“Then I got together with Toni Eggleston from the Steven Street Gallery and we both loved the idea of providing a space to inspire children to explore their creativity.

“The content and format of our workshops will be unique to the Coast,” she said.

“At a foundational level, we will be giving our students a broad understanding of what art is. And typically, on a two week  rotation, the children will focus on a specific medium.

“We will cover drawing and sketching skills, acrylic and watercolor, a mixed media work of art, intuitive mark making with inks, and three dimensional sculpture.

“The workshops will be embedded with music and a mindful approach to art making. In combination, these are incredibly beneficial for well being and mental health”.

Chony is an award winning, QCT-registered visual art teacher with over 20 years  teaching experience nationally and internationally.
