Palmwoods friends, Kym Ward and Sheree Bevan have taken their love of all things Christmas to the next level with the start of their business, Christmas Charm Creations.

“It all started because we both absolutely love Christmas,” Kym explained.

“We really liked the idea of selling Christmas themed decorations and figures at local markets throughout the year,” Sheree said. “So we started buying Christmas characters from overseas suppliers, but we quickly found out that local markets prefer products to be handmade.”

This did not deter Kym and Sheree, who set about watching “about a million” videos on YouTube, on making Christmas decorations.

“We were particularly drawn to the crazy Whoville  style and that is where a lot of our inspiration has come from,” said Kym.

Kym had always enjoyed pottery, but Sheree had no experience in arts or crafts at all.

“I had never even made a single bow,” Sheree said. “Now I could tie one in my sleep.”

A room in Kym’s house has been turned into “the glitter room” and is bursting with gorgeous and lovingly made Christmas creations, each and every one of which is totally unique.

“We could not duplicate a decoration if we tried,” laughed Kym. “The look of every piece depends on where the glitter falls!.”

Sheree and Kym are building up stock in preparation for Christmas and will be selling their beautiful wares at the Maleny RSL Markets on the 24th of July.

“It is a good way to gauge what types of decorations people like the best,” said Kym.

“We have so much fun planning and making our decorations,” Sheree said. “We both have input into every piece.”

Seeing the smiles on the faces of their customers makes this labour of love worth every moment.

“After the first markets, we both commented that a special look would come over people’s faces when they saw our stall,” Sheree said. “It’s like they couldn’t help themselves but smile. It’s just beautiful. And if our creations make people smile and bring them feelings of happiness, then I think we really are honouring the spirit of Christmas.”
