Book tracks history of Buderim
The book “Timber- Trains- Turmoil (a History of Buderim and its Tramway)” by BPHTI President Helene Cronin OAM was launched at a function in the Buderim War Memorial Hall on Saturday August 29th by Dr Russell Stitz AM.
Dr Stitz is one of Australia’s most prominent and highly awarded clinicians and Chairman of Buderim Foundation, which provided a grant to BPHTI to publish the book.
Dr Stitz congratulated Helene for the passion she has displayed in putting together what he described as a comprehensive history of Buderim and its surrounds over the last 150 years and for her skill in negotiating the complex pathways, public debates and differences of opinion related to the development of the Tramway.
Steve Chellingworth of Red Lid Creative, who assisted with the printing of the book, said he was personally touched by the humanity of the stories in what he described as a “ridiculously heavy body of work”. He was referring to the size of the book.
The audience were also entertained by Alan Winter and Noel Williams with a number of songs they have written about Buderim and the Tramway. Because of virus restrictions the number of attendees had to be limited to 70.
