One of the oldest established dental practices in Nambour had been treating hinterland locals for many years when Dr Joseph Hollywood BDS became the new owner and practice principal in February 2021.

One year on and Joseph and his team are celebrating their anniversary and reflecting on the trials, tribulations and positives that come with running a small, independent dental practice in the region.

“I moved to the Sunshine Coast from England in 2019 and started seeing patients in Nambour pretty soon after that,” says Joseph. After a difficult period during the first wave of lockdowns mid- 2020, Joseph learnt that the practice was being sold by the then owners.

“The sale of the practice was a bit of a bolt out of the blue, especially as by that time I was enjoying seeing lots of regular patients and welcoming new ones, too.

“The idea of becoming completely independent was  somewhat daunting but I look back now and see how far we’ve come in such a short space of time and I’m so proud of the practice we’ve built up.”

As independent businesses across the region have struggled navigating the impacts from lockdowns and  government mandates, the team behind Blackall Terrace Dental helped drive it from strength to strength.

They did so by  focusing on clinical excellence and individualized care, something they say patients appreciate when they visit.

“We’re a small team but everyone’s on the same page,” said Jospeh. “The focus really is on putting the patient first and I  think that’s what they notice when they visit us.

“We try to be comprehensive and understanding and really do  take the time to be as thorough as possible. By doing it that way, it helps patients understand the treatment  that is recommended and gives them the control over their oral health.”

It has been one year since Joseph took over the practice. With new patient demand rising, the plans for 2022  include inviting another dentist into the team and installing new dental equipment to help give their patients  top levels of dental care.

“The response and support from our patients and the community during our first year has been incredibly positive so it’s a big thank you to everyone for enabling us to keep going. I think we’re all looking forward to  growing the practice over the next 12 months, too and are excited to keep the momentum going.”

Blackall Terrace Dental is based in the health hub precinct of Nambour at 87 Blackall Terrace. To check-in for  your next dental visit, you can call Joseph’s team at Blackall Terrace Dental on 07 5441 3583 or visit them online at www.blackallterracedental.com.au.
