Blackall Range woodcrafters seek unwanted logs for community benefit
The Blackall Range Woodcrafters Guild Inc is calling on Sunshine Coast residents to donate unwanted trees and logs suitable for woodworking. The guild is particularly interested in species such as camphor laurel, jacaranda, and silky oak. Logs should be over 400mm in diameter, up to 800mm, and 2400mm long.
“For the last 28 years Woodies members have donated many items of woodcraft to over 100 community non-profit organisations including thousands of wooden toys which have been donated to the annual Salvation Army Children’s Christmas Toy Appeal,” said Publicity Officer David Friend.
Instead of disposing of logs cut down for clients, the Woodies are urging property owners to get in touch. “We have our own mill and solar drying kiln to slab logs and dry the timber ready for woodworking,” said the club's Chief Miller, Bruce Chapman. “We’ll take away any suitable logs and make quality and practical woodcraft.”
This initiative not only benefits local woodworkers but also supports environmental management by reusing materials that might otherwise be wasted. With a record of community contributions over nearly three decades, the Blackall Range Woodcrafters continue to serve as a link between local businesses, environmental stewardship, and craftsmanship.
