Blackall Range Lions Club Turns Five.

Wendy Sandford, Adelle Taylor, Erica Boyd, Susan Stewart and Tric Doble enjoyed the evening.

It was a night of celebration last Thursday when Blackall Range Lions Club celebrated its fifth birthday. Over sixty members, community supporters and fellow Lions from clubs from Brisbane to Mooloolaba joined the party held at the Nambour RSL.

Guest of honour was Donna Hedges, who was the District Governor at the time the club was chartered. Donna provided much assistance to Peter Jensen and Colin Sandford, who received awards for their part in setting up Blackall Range Lions. The club awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship to Peter Jensen for growing the club to what it today.

Guests were invited to bring a gift of a non-perishable food item to add to the member’s regular monthly collection for the Nambour Community Centre. A generous response of food items and cash was donated.

“We have seen an incredible increase in demand for food support from families and individuals. Blackall Range Lions’ monthly donation of grocery items is essential to our ability to assist our community in this way,” said Peter Hogg, spokesperson for the Nambour Community Centre.

“Our aim is to serve our community and to have fun doing it,” said Club President Meryl Gamgee.

“Nights like this, with so many well-wishers from our community and other Lions Clubs attending, and the work members put into decorating the room and making our birthday cake, all add to the pleasure we get from being a member of Blackall Range Lions.

“It was a very successful night, and the club is looking forward to its next birthday party, perhaps when it turns ten,” she said.
