Wednesday 5 August saw a return to competitive Fiesta Fours at Woombye Bowls Club. Because of Covid 19 restrictions, we reduced numbers to 80 bowlers. Everyone enjoyed getting back out onto the greens to play competition again in glorious Winter sunshine.

The overall winners on the day, with 2+46, were a team from The Waves Caloundra, skippered by Carole Mc Donald. Runners up with 2+33 were a combined team from Albert Club in Gympie and Nambour, skippered by Joan Callaway. Congratulations to all bowlers for supporting our small club at these unpredictable times.

A big thank you to the Woombye ladies who donated food, prizes and their time and effort in putting the day together. And to several men who assisted on the day. Great Woombye teamwork!

On Friday 6 August, the A grade Men’s Singles Championship Final was held. Wayne Knetter and Doug Tognolini played a competitive, but twice rain-interrupted match, displaying quality bowls and good sportsmanship in trying conditions. Doug won the event and on Sunday, he went on to play in the Champion of Club Champions at Coolum. He represented our club well, but went down to a tough competitor from Kawana.

On Saturday, our ladies and men’s Pennant teams competed in 4 divisions, with mixed success.

And on Sunday 8 August, the A grade Ladies Singles Final was also held. The match between Karen Jensen and Rochelle Tapara was a well-fought game with Roachy the eventual winner. She will represent Woombye in the Ladies Champion of Club Champions at Tewantin-Noosa in September.
