Armed forces mural to bring vibrant colours to RSL Club

The winning design represents each of the armed forces of Navy, Army and Air Force through people in their uniforms and icons.

A colourful 13 metre wide street art mural honouring the three armed forces will soon adorn the Nambour RSL Club. 

Nambour RSL Club’s Marketing and Communications Manager Kathryn Hopwood​ said the mural would be created by local artist Sarah Sculley. It was the result of collaboration with the Street Art Nambour project which aims to pay tribute and bring colour, honour and history to the town. 

“The community of Nambour and our members voted between three modern and diverse options for the final design of our contribution to street art,” said Kathryn.

“The winning design represents each of the armed forces of Navy, Army, and Air Force through people in their uniforms and icons.”

Colours from the Australian, Indigenous and Torres Straight Island flags have been used and the Southern Cross is included on the left. 

The street art will be painted on one of the Nambour RSL Club’s walls on Mathew Street Nambour. It will be finished by the end of October.

“It will take Sarah two days to complete and she will be using a scissor-lift and stencils to create her masterpiece,” said Kathryn.

Sarah is a Nambour urban artist who creates “Banksy-style” stencil works with a kick of colour and energy.    

“Sarah has painted murals in many countries across the globe, but as a member of Nambour RSL Club, she feels this is one of her more meaningful murals.”

Street Art Nambour creations are positioned on walls and other structures throughout Nambour, providing a trail of culture and stories for locals and visitors alike.
