Couple celebrates 60 years of love, resilience

Tony and Felicity Lee celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary today in Palmwoods, marking a rare milestone in a time when enduring love is often hard to find.

Daughter, Meloney, paid tribute to the couple who have faced numerous challenges yet remained devoted to each other and their faith in God. “My parents have always been a beacon of hope,” she said. “They immigrated from South Africa in 2006 after Dad had been held at gunpoint for the fourth time! I came over with my husband and children in 2003, and that made a way for them to join us here.”

Despite such harrowing experiences, the Lees have built a life defined by resilience and gratitude. “We are so thankful to Australia for the opportunity afforded to us to become citizens, and we so love this country!” Meloney said.

The couple, who have two children and five grandchildren, have led an adventurous life.

However, not all has been easy. Tony is currently coping with Alzheimer’s Dementia, a challenge that places significant demands on Felicity, who continues to care for him at their Palmwoods home.

They said their secrets to a long marriage were: “Faith in God, endless love, forgiveness, and patience.”

“My parents’ strength in the face of adversity is truly inspiring,” said Meloney. “ It is not often you hear of a 60th wedding anniversary in this day and age.”

Before settling in Australia, they lived in Rhodesia, South Africa, and had brief stints in Botswana and Malawi.
