Experience the best of rural life at the Maleny Show

by Tanya Outridge

The Maleny Show is on from Friday May 31 to Saturday June 1 and, as always, it will showcase a blend of traditional and new activities with something to please everyone.

“Putting the Show together involves such a huge amount of planning and execution, but we are incredibly fortunate to have such a fantastic bunch of energetic volunteers,” said Maleny Show Society Secretary, Lois White.

Since 1922, the Maleny Show Society, together with their passionate band of volunteers, sponsors, patrons, and committee members, have ensured the show continues to thrive.

Held at the Maleny Showgrounds, this year’s show is set to delight, educate and entertain, with a diverse range of sections and events.

“Every aspect of the Show will celebrate our community’s agricultural heritage and diverse, vibrant culture,” she said.

“The Maleny Show offers a rare opportunity for visitors to get a glimpse into agricultural life, from livestock to fruits and vegetables, flowers, cake decorating, needlework, photography, woodwork, sweets and preserves and handicrafts.

“And over the years, events such as the Show Jumping, Woodchop and Dog Jumping have become incredibly popular.”

The Maleny Show has expanded its offering by including attractions for all ages, such as Bluey and Bingo and the popular JC Action Sports Freestyle BMX.

“We are so excited about bringing JC Action Sports to the Show because they offer an opportunity for younger generations to ‘meet and greet’ and attend poster signing after each show,” Ms White said.

This year, there will be a prehistoric adventure ‘Dinosaur Fun Park’, and the Animal Nursery, where you can get up close and personal with adorable farm animals. You will learn about the importance of conservation and biodiversity at the Wildlife Conservation Experience, which features interactive exhibits and educational demonstrations.

“This year we have a very exciting Country Star Search Competition, where huge prizes are on offer to the winners and the chance to become the Next Big Thing in country music, and we encourage local country entertainers to get in touch,” she said.

All of the traditional favourites will be there, from SideShow Alley rides and games, live music, the Big Bang Science Fun, local dance performers, roaming entertainers, trade vendors and the Cattlemen’s bar serving up refreshments till late.

At the end of each night there will be a fantastic fireworks display in a show that’s not to be missed.

“This year’s Show is looking bigger and better than ever and we can’t wait to see people there.”
