History, food, art and more at Yandina Historic House
Business Writeup: Yandina Historic House
The Yandina Historic House is so much more than its famous and much-loved $6 Devonshire Teas. History is the big feature of the House, along with the beautiful art, pottery and craft, museum and history reading room.
“I think visitors are often quite surprised by what we have on offer,” said Art Curator, Col Nation.
“There are so many interesting things to see here, and the icing on the cake is that after a browse, you can enjoy our fresh, delicious and reasonably priced food.”
Open from 9.30am till 2.30pm, Monday to Saturday, the House serves its famous Devonshire teas with tea or coffee.
“Our scones are light, delicious and locally made, and they are served with fresh, whipped Maleny Dairies cream, and jams,” he said. “Tasty light lunches are also available for you to enjoy after you take in the art and craft”.
The art gallery features a number of local artists and potters who showcase their work in the rustic and welcoming setting of this beautiful old local home.
“The theme for the art is ‘Local, Historic and Culture’ so there are loads of local coastal and hinterland scenes, and local birds, animals and places to brighten an empty wall in your home,” said Col.
The museum and history reading room features loads of local history dating back before the town of Yandina was officially gazetted as the very first town on the Sunshine Coast.
The name Yandina is from a First Nations word meaning ‘to go by foot’ and it is pretty much the first place you can walk across the Maroochy river on foot without getting wet.
“The old Cobb and Co route crossed the river here, and boats could make their way upstream to Coulsen’s wharf at Yandina to carry timber sourced from the local area,” said Col.
For your convenience a 3D tour is now available from the website www.yandinahistorichouse.com.au.
“But it’s so much more fun to come and enjoy our lovely food, and relax in the beautiful surroundings.”
