Yandina Baptists look back 100 years

The Yandina Baptist Church was formally constituted in 1921 after a disused church building was moved from Pomona to the present site.

Baptists, however, had already been worshiping in the area for at least ten years before the first Baptist Church building appeared in Yandina.

The services were held in other church buildings or in private homes.

Climatic disasters, wars and societal changes meant that the church buildings and congregations have changed over time, but the Baptist presence continues to thrive in Yandina.

Those with past and present connections with the church are welcome to celebrate the centenary this year.

Some past Yandina Baptist pastors have been invited to preach at selected Sunday services in Yandina in 2021.  Pastors and members alike are looking forward to these.

The main event will be celebrated on 5th-6th June with a historical display, release of a centenary book and other activities at the church.

“This is a major milestone in the life of our church as we celebrate 100 years in the community and also share in Yandina township’s 150 year celebrations as well,” said Chairman of the Centenary Committee Ron Buchanan.

If you have stories, photos or other memorabilia to share, the centenary committee would love to hear from you.
