Explore plant oddities at Woombye workshop with local expert

Ever wondered about the strange bumps, twists, and growths that appear on trees and plants? Local botanical author and naturalist Joan Heavey will be demystifying these curious phenomena in her upcoming workshop titled Galls, Burls and Other Plant Oddities. The event will be held at Florabunda Bushcare Nursery on Saturday, September 7th, 2024, from 9am to 10.30am, followed by a relaxing morning tea.

During the workshop, attendees will gain insight into the world of plant deformities. Joan will delve into the fascinating processes that create galls—unusual growths caused by insects on leaves, stems, and flower buds—and burls, which are knotted features often found on tree trunks as a result of injury or infection. Joan’s in-depth knowledge will illuminate these natural marvels, helping participants understand the often-overlooked peculiarities of plant life.

Whether you’re a seasoned gardener, a nature enthusiast, or simply curious about the environment, this workshop will offer something for everyone. Joan Heavey’s passion for the natural world promises to make the session both informative and engaging.

The event is free for members of the Petrie Creek Catchment Care Group, and non-members are welcome to attend for a $5 donation. Morning tea will be provided, offering a chance to mingle and discuss all things plants.

To reserve your spot, please RSVP by September 5th by emailing florabundabushcare@bigpond.com or by calling Florabunda Bushcare Nursery at 0475 581 890. Everyone is welcome, so come along and immerse yourself in the fascinating world of plant oddities!
